The weekend started on Wednesday when Luswin's camera set the pace.

Café Orlin
The Boy in the Checkered Shirt and I dropped into this East Village restaurant after bargaining a better price on sunglasses from a St. Marks vendor. Meer ordered the steak&eggs with spinach purée. He had two cappuccinos (because one was not enough). I had the millet pancakes with chicken sausage and beet salad. I drank one café americain.
Our waitress wore a turquoise turtleneck.

Carmine's
The night before Thanksgiving I met up with the Serenity Now crew for the annual meal/event at Carmine's Upper West Side location.
This was my third year in attendance and each year the fun gets better. The house salad, Shrimp Fra Diavolo, Chicken Saltimbocca, Chicken Parmigiana, and a side of broccoli were served family style.
After dinner, Fritz and Luswin and Meer and I went down to Gym Bar for a night cap. Or three.

The Half King
Sunday afternoon Meer and I went to watch Luswin and Fritz play basketball at the Chelsea Piers. After the game we went to the Half King on 23rd Street. Everyone ordered a burger except Fritz who went for the Fish&Chips.
It was PBR and Guinness around the table.

La Paloma
Friday after work I went to happy hour with what felt like the entire office. It had been a long week (even though I only worked three days). The Boy in the Checkered Shirt tagged along too. After two Red Stripes, we left with Simone to grab some food at this little hole in the wall Mexican place on 45th. Simone ordered a chicken fajita, Meer had a quesadilla, and I ordered a taco salad.

Song for a Love Cocoon weekend.

Cafe Sabarsky
For my birthday the Boy in the Checkered Shirt and I went to the restaurant at the Neue Galerie on Fifth Avenue. We had a late start leaving Brooklyn and were nearly accosted by a heroin user on the L train, but made it in time for our lunch reservation.
We started the meal with the Rote Beete Salat mit Ziegenkäse, Pinienkernen und Sherry-Vinaigrette and the Selleriesalat mit Äpfeln, Walnüssen & Endivien mit Zitronen-Mayonnaise Dressing. Meer ordered the Kavalierspitz mit Röstkartoffeln und Cremespinat and I had the Ungarisches Rindsgulasch mit Spätzle. For dessert we shared the Apfelstrudel and Schwarzwälder Kirschtorte.
Throughout the meal we drank Bitburger Pilseners and Gösser Lagers.
Good friend Sevag set us up with entry to the museum.

Cafe Rakka
Late on Wednesday the Boy in the Checkered Shirt introduced me to this simple Middle Eastern restaurant in the East Village. We shared a shish kebab, shish taouk, curried cauliflower, and a salad. I slurped down a lemonade.

Dojo
After the gym on Tuesday, I met up with the Boy in the Checkered Shirt and we went down to Dojo on W. 4th and Mercer (not to be confused with the Dojo on St. Marks, which I'm told is riddled with roaches). We both had soy burgers with salad and rice. Healthy meal.
Then we headed to Julius for a Rolling Rock and a Budweiser under the watchful gaze of Bea Arthur.

Ecclesiasticus 44:1-10,13-14
All Saints Day
1 Let us now sing the praises of famous men,
our ancestors in their generations.
2 The Lord apportioned to them great glory,
his majesty from the beginning.
3 There were those who ruled in their kingdoms,
and made a name for themselves by their valor;
those who gave counsel because they were intelligent;
those who spoke in prophetic oracles;
4 those who led the people by their counsels
and by their knowledge of the people's lore;
they were wise in their words of instruction;
5 those who composed musical tunes,
or put verses in writing;
6 rich men endowed with resources,
living peacefully in their homes--
7 all these were honored in their generations,
and were the pride of their times.
8 Some of them have left behind a name,
so that others declare their praise.
9 But of others there is no memory;
they have perished as though they had never existed;
they have become as though they had never been born,
they and their children after them.
10 But these also were godly men,
whose righteous deeds have not been forgotten;
13 Their offspring will continue forever,
and their glory will never be blotted out.
14 Their bodies are buried in peace,
but their name lives on generation after generation.

The Weekend
Perfect song for a Halloween in NYC.
Tres Hermanos
After working on the Skyline Project, the Boy in the Checkered Shirt and I went to this small Mexican place in a garage near the apartment. We shared some beef and chicken tacos. Then headed to Union Square for the evening eucharist at Grace Church.
