Automatic Slims

Last Thursday the Boy in the Checkered Shirt and I went to hop to Ben Watts at Cielo.  Before we wandered down to the West Village for a light meal of a salad with goat cheese, a quesadilla, and sides of spinach and asparagus at Automatic Slims.  We downed it with glasses of Stella Artois and Yuengling.   The bartender comped us the beers.

After eating we still had some time to kill so ventured to the roof of the Hotel Gansevoort.  He didn't see anyone he recognized so we called it a bust after one beer.  From there we ventured to Cielo, met a frisky bouncer, and watched straight girls dance with their purses until the wee hours.

Northeast Kingdom

When my mom visited last November we went to this hipster restaurant twice because she liked the dinner menu so much.  The Boy in the Checkered Shirt and I wandered over on Sunday to check out the brunch.  There was a 30 minute wait for a table, which is reasonable, and we were directed to wait in the restaurant's basement den. We asked if we could have coffee while we waited and while we were told that we could, we were also told that it would be faster if we went down two doors to a coffee shop and bought coffee there and brought it back.  Perhaps true, we were slightly nonplussed.

But we did as the waitress suggested and stepped down to the Wyckoff Star. Returning to the Northeast Kingdom with our coffees we headed down stairs to the den and waited.  In short order a table was ready.  The Boy ordered eggs scrambled with vegetables and I had the baked eggs.  The meal was good, but the waitress got on my nerves as she explained ad nauseam why our meals took longer to prepare than every other diner seated within view.

We wandered around the neighborhood afterwards, visiting a thrift shop and a slaughterhouse with some very depressed looking chickens in the lobby.

The Weekend

Song in my head all weekend.

Unknown Indian Restaurant

The Boy in the Checkered Shirt and I visited the Cuchifritos Gallery at the Essex Street Market.  After he hopped a train to visit friends in New Jersey and I hopped over to the West Village to have dinner with Milo - visiting from Vancouver - and Luswin.  The restaurant where we intended to eat had a long wait, so we walked around the corner to an Indian restaurant.  We shared three dishes over rice and naan.  After we retreated to Gym Bar and were joined by Frank.  After a drink (or two), we scattered to our trains.

My Moon

Tuesday night after a round of cardio at NYSC, the Boy in the Checkered Shirt and I went to Williamsburg for some dinner. Heading towards a Thai place, we decided to take advantage of the unseasonably warm night and ate on the big and empty patio at MyMoon, an elegant restaurant with a Turkish theme. We ordered one glass of their Malbec and one of Shiraz, a steamed artichoke, the vegetable terrine, and split the lamb chops. The terrine was smoked, so not my cup of casserole, but the lamb chops were perfect. Served with potatoes and rice it was enough for two. Seated outside, we kept our eyes peeled for any stray Orionids (didn’t see any) and spread out on our benches for a Mediterranean authenticity.

Jacques Brasserie

Today the Boy in the Checkered Shirt came over and worked on the painting project. Then we went into the city and shopped for a new wireless router (I’m typing this from the floor of my bedroom!) and a pair of Princess Leia-esque headphones for work.

After, we took the W train down to Prince Street and stopped in to Uniqlo to look for a t-shirt he saw in DC. They didn’t have it anymore, but I did pick up a new sweater and 4 pairs of badly needed socks. Then we walked over to Cafe Habana, for a coffee, but the wait for a table was 30 minutes. Instead we headed across the street to Jacques, a French brasserie with very few patrons. We each ordered a cappucino, shared a shrimp and avocado salad. We finished the light meal with a very heavy souffle au chocolat.

And then we boarded the M train at Bowery and headed back to Bushwick.

The Weekend

Running through my head the weekend of the National Equality March.

Are your neighbors giving you sideways glances?
